Dillard's Store Services
Dillard’s Inc. (328 stores – 150,000 sqft/ store) operates retail department stores primarily in the United States. Since 2006, Elumen is providing to Dillard’s LED lighting systems for display applications that have dramatically reduced Dillard’s overall carbon footprint, cutting down on electricity, replacement waste, and inventory waste.
Ladies Shoe and Handbag Department Display
The shoe store and handbag display shelves were littered with 20 watt halogen puck lights which provide beautiful illumination but require excessive energy consumption, costly and continuous lamp replacements and maintenance, and tremendous inventory damage caused by the halogen’s heat and UV emissions. Another and potentially the most serious of issues encountered due to the heat of the halogen in these open displays is the potential danger posed to Dillard’s clients of burning themselves while reaching into the display. The challenge: meet all the requirements above, maintain or exceed the light quality to insure the appeal of Dillard’s offerings and eliminate the possibility of burns for customers.
Challenges Met
· Energy savings: the energy consumption has been reduced by 80% and the savings to Dillard's in energy once the 50,000 piece retrofit was complete exceed $400,000 annually.
· All maintenance and lamp replacement costs have been eliminated to date, at 14 hour per day on-time the earliest installations have been on for over 17,000 hours.
· Maintained the light quality and retained aesthetic beauty of the display and its contents as well as quality and consistency of the lighting.
· Eliminated all inventory erosion with LED lights containing no UV and efficiently managed thermal dissipation.
· Using proprietary materials, developed Cool Face technology and eliminated all customer complaints of burns received from the display.
