Macy's Inc - Herald Square Manhattan
Macy’s (more than 800 stores - $26 billion in annual sales) - Herald Square location is the most famous department store location in the world and entertains the most visitors per year due to its fame and prime Midtown Manhattan location. In 2008, when the store was set to be renovated and modernized, Elumen Lighting Networks developed a LED lighting system that would replace the originally planned halogen down light system in addition to providing lighting in Macy’s high end jewelry cases and podium displays. Our system had to equal the light quality of the halogen system while dramatically reducing energy consumption, eliminating maintenance and fit seamlessly into the store’s existing control and power requirements.
Challenges Met
· Energy savings: The energy consumption has been reduced by 85%
· All maintenance and lamp replacement costs have been eliminated to date, at 14 hours per day average runtime; this installation has achieved over 20,000 hours without failures or need for maintenance. Already saving on roughly the equivalent of 10 lamp replacements had the original halogen spec been installed.
· Maintained the light quality and retained aesthetic beauty of the department and its retail contents: 1st quarter after renovation completion, the beddings department sales increased by over 30%.
· Eliminated all inventory erosion with LED light containing no UV and efficiently manage thermal dissipation.
